The three male red, white, and yellow RCA plugs on the cable are for carrying video and audio signals. The yellow plug is for composite video, the red plug is for the right audio channel, and the white or black plug is for the left audio channel. The RCA connector is also known as an RCA jack, cinch connector or phono connector.

In order to output composite video, an HDMI device must have a built-in converter that can convert the digital signal to analogue.
