Important Installation Notes

Connect the battery first so the controller can detect the system voltage correctly
• Then connect the solar panel
• Then connect the load/output if required
• Use a suitable direct current fuse or circuit breaker on the positive cable between the battery and controller
• The fuse should be installed as close to the battery as practical
• Always size the fuse to protect the cable, not just the controller
• Use correctly rated direct current cable, terminals and fuse hardware
• Installation should be carried out by someone familiar with low-voltage direct current solar wiring

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):

Is this an MPPT solar controller?

No. This unit is marked as a PWM solar charge controller. It should not be described as a Maximum Power Point Tracking controller.

What model is this controller?

The product images show the model as RTD1230.

Does this have one USB port or two?

The product images show one USB Type-A output port.

Can this be used with lithium batteries?

Do not use this controller with lithium or lithium iron phosphate batteries unless the supplied manual specifically confirms compatibility. The product images do not confirm lithium battery support.

What battery types does it support?

Battery chemistry is not confirmed from the images. Please check the supplied manual before installation and use only with supported battery types.

Should I use a fuse with this solar charge controller?

Yes. A suitably rated direct current fuse or circuit breaker should be installed on the positive cable between the battery and the solar charge controller, as close to the battery as practical.

For a 30A controller, a 40A fuse or direct current circuit breaker is commonly used, provided the cable is also rated for that current.

Always size the fuse to protect the cable, not just the controller. Use correctly rated direct current cable, terminals and fuse hardware for your installation.

Can I connect this directly to 230V mains power?

No. This is for low-voltage direct current solar systems only. Do not connect it to 230V mains power.

Is this a complete solar kit?

No. This is the controller only. Solar panel, battery, wiring, fuse or circuit breaker, mounting hardware and loads are not included.

What order should I connect it in?

Connect the battery first, then the solar panel, then the load/output if required. When disconnecting, remove the load/output first, then the solar panel, then the battery.

Is it suitable for caravan or camping solar?

Yes, it may be suitable for small caravan, camping, shed or battery charging setups when correctly matched with the battery, solar panel, cable size, fuse protection and installation method.
